Ready to take some pictures? A good photoshoot doesn’t rely solely on the skill of the photographer. In fact, the camera itself is just as responsible for creating impressive photos. If you aren’t sure what type of camera you should be using, this guide should give you a general idea of which one is best suited for every occasion.

What Type Of Camera Should I Use?

Point and shoot camera

Point and shoot cameras, or P&S cameras for short, are cameras designed for the general population. Chances are that your family already owns one. They’re meant to be very simple to use and have controls that are intuitive yet allow for some degree of customization. They’re also easy to carry around, with many P&S cameras having lenses that extend and retract when needed.

If you’re not taking professional photos and you simply want to take some pictures, then a point-and-shoot camera is your go-to. It’s going to serve you well in almost all situations, and you really can’t go wrong with having one around.

Full frame camera

Full frame cameras, or DSLR cameras, are the best cameras money can buy for capturing the perfect photos. Full frame cameras such as Canon cameras capture all colors in really high definition. Even the most minute details can be noticed if the camera is used properly. Full frame cameras are more complex than typical P&S cameras and are therefore usually only owned by professional photographers.

Action camera

Action cameras are what you need if you want to take photos or record videos in situations where it would be too risky to use a regular camera. Action cameras are small and durable, often made to be both shockproof and waterproof. This allows you to record footage of outdoor adventures such as kayaking, mountain climbing, and even skydiving without having to worry about the camera the entire time. The photo and video quality of action cameras are usually not as good as a full-frame or P&S cameras, so they’re best suited for situations when using another camera is simply not an option.

Video camera

Video cameras are simply cameras made to record video. They can hold lots of video footage and are optimized for video recording, not taking photos. Video cameras are also designed to be held differently, making them easier to hold up for long periods of time. Take a video camera with you if you plan on recording behind-the-scenes footage of your photoshoot.

Disposable camera

Disposable cameras are the last type of camera on our list simply because they aren’t really as important as the others. Cameras have become so affordable in this day and age that you really don’t need to buy a disposable camera anymore. Nevertheless, they are a decent choice if you’re in a situation where any other camera would be prone to damage or breaking.
