Is the iPhone 13 Pro Max Too Big?
A little more of a phablet than a phone, the iPhone 13 Pro Max with its 6.7-inch ProMotion display is quite a monster. Is the larger size worth the features compared to previous, more compact models? Let’s find out.
Bigger Benefits or Just Bigger?
The real difference between the iPhone 13 Pro Max and its Pro Max predecessors is its larger screen size and longer battery life. Both these features can be greatly beneficial for certain tasks, but not so much for others. If you like to take your phone with you on a run, or stash it in your pocket when cycling, forget it.
A new phone size also means you’ll have to get a new iPhone 13 Pro Max case. Although the phone size and weight may still be bearable, the addition of the case certainly declassifies it as a pocket-friendly phone.
On the flip side, if your phone generally doubles as a mini-computer, this could just be the ultimate gadget for you. Who doesn’t love a bigger display? This display is the biggest Apple has ever put in a phone (and the same goes for the battery).
The ProMotion display automatically adapts the refresh rate according to screen content. Starting at 10 Hertz, it goes up to 120 Hertz, whereas older screens were typically only 60 Hertz. This enhances playback smoothness and contributes to better battery life since the software can determine the power the screen needs and adapt accordingly. Apple claims that on a single charge, the iPhone 13 Pro Max offers up to 28 hours of video playback.
Design
The frosted glass rear comes in graphite, gold, silver, and sierra blue. It features three raised camera lenses in an enclosure and is water and dust-resistant. Its solid design is all about getting the job done without design fluff and frills.
The front includes a face ID sensor and front-facing camera yet still affords a great full-screen experience. The only drawback is that the side space is not fully utilized since icons are merely larger on the screen rather than the space being applied differently.
The large screen begs to be used for taking notes, but sadly the iPhone 13 Pro Max does not support the use of a stylus.
Features
With wide color, true tone, and bright HDR (high dynamic range) playback this is a great phone for staying entertained during travel and commuting. It features excellent storage and supports wireless charging, 5G, Wi-Fi 6, and MagSafe for attaching a card wallet or other iPhone accessories.
The flagship A15 Bionic processor is Apple’s fastest processor to date. This means great functioning speed and power. Apps download swiftly, photos and videos process quickly and tasks are completed without sticky delays.
Cameras
With ultra-wide quad rear cameras, macro shooting mode (which allows you to shoot from just 0.8 inches away), night mode, photographic styles, and cinematic video mode, the iPhone 13 Pro Max offers a great photography and videography experience.
Regardless of what you primarily use your phone for, if you can handle the bigger size, you’ll be able to enjoy some speedy, high-quality features on this device. Keep in mind that a bigger battery also requires more charging time so we recommend investing in a 20 Watt charger as opposed to the 15 Watt included in your purchase.
